How NOT to Sell on Twitter

by George

Twitter is a great tool for networking and collaborating; it should not be used as a selling machine. I like to socialize and meet new and interesting people. I use Social Networks to connect and build relationships with people; not just make sales or buy things.

Let me paint the picture a bit more clearly for you.

You want to sell something to me?

You want to market your services to me?

Get to know me first!!

Be Human and Not a Sales Machine

Do you think I like following someone, only to have you send me an auto DM such as: “Click here on how to get more followers on Twitter” or “Click here to see how you can be rich!”

COME ON!!

When I get a DM (Direct Message) like this, a quick motion of my hand and I click on the un-follow button. If you want to sell something to someone on Twitter, find out more about them before you send out the atomic sales pitch.

When I start following someone, I get to know that person more and build a relationship with them. Think about it! When you got to a social event, do you start in on the sales pitch or do you have a conversation with them? You talk to them, of course! You are human, not a sales machine; speak to them, not at them.

When you build trust and a relationship with someone, they are more likely to buy from you. When they trust you, they will stick with you and keeping coming back. Take the time to find out more about their wants and needs. Take that and offer them help instead of selling to them.

How do you build the trust of your customers? Do you make relationships instead of sales?
